Tandem Accelerators in IFIN-HH

Description The tandem accelerators in IFIN-HH are grouped in one department acting as a single user facility with open access for national and international users. Access to the facility is regulated by an international Program Advisory Committee (PAC). The PAC meets twice a year to decide on the experimental program and the feasibility of the proposed experiments. There are three electrostatic accelerators: the 9 MV HVEC Pelletron Tandem FN accelerator, the 3 MV HVEE Tandetron accelerator (mainly used for IBA and ion implantation) and the 1 MV HVEE Tandetron accelerator (dedicated to AMS measurements). Around the accelerators there are numerous experimental setups for basic and applied research. Perhaps the most complex experimental setup at the 9 MV tandem accelerator is the ROSphere detection array consisting of 25 HPGe coaxial detectors (>50% detection efficiency) with anti-Compton shields. The system can also accommodate around 12 LaBr3:Ce fast scintillating detectors. The detection array can also be coupled with the PLUNGER system for measurements of ps lifetimes for the excited nuclear states. Other significant experimental setups are the systems for nuclear reaction studies with silicon particle detectors, beta decay measuring station with moving tape collector, CLOVER and LaBr3:Ce detectors for off-beam beta decay measurements, a neutron detection array, etc. The laboratory benefits from a very large detector pool consisting of HPGe coaxial detectors, HPGe CLOVER detectors, and LaBr3:Ce fast scintillator detectors. A wide variety of analog and digital acquisition systems is also available. The 3 MV HVEE Tandetron accelerator has three experimental end stations. Two of them are dedicated end stations for IBA and ion implantation experiments. The IBA chamber has all the equipment necessary for PIXE, PIGE, ERDA, RBS and micro-beam measurement techniques. The ion implantation end station has an X-Y swiping system, multiple target holder and cooling and heating systems for the target.
