| Description | The Portuguese Mass Spectrometry Network, RNEM, has been created by the Foundation for Science and Technology, FCT, under the framework of the 2002 National Program for the Renewal of Scientific Equipment. This Network originates from a former proposal for a Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Analysis Network, submitted by Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, FCUL, (Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon University), in which participated Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, ITQB, (Institute for Chemical and Biological Technology) Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear, ITN, (Nuclear and Technological Institute), Instituto Superior Técnico, IST (Advanced Technical Institute) and Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa, FFUL,(Pharmacy Faculty of the University of Lisbon) and from the proposals submitted by the University of Aveiro, the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, CNC, the Centre for Pharmaceutical Studies of the University of Coimbra, CEF/UC and the Centre for Chemistry of the University of Madeira, CQM/UMa. RNEM was created to maximize and rationalize the mass spectrometry capabilities in Portugal, continent and islands, to foster an active collaboration amongst R&D institutions and to make advanced mass spectrometry equipment available to the scientific community in general. RNEM provides a mass spectrometry national facility, unique in the country, for support and reinforcement of R&D capabilities of multiple beneficiaries from universities, institutes, hospitals, and other interested institutions in multidisciplinary areas, such as chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and medical sciences. |
