Plymouth Marine Laboratory

Description Recognised internationally for delivering world-class science PML is a highly regarded academic institution, which specialises in delivering pioneering research, and subsequent knowledge transfer, addressing the many complex challenges to the marine environment, for the benefit of society. Providing capability for observing, modeling, understanding and forecasting marine ecosystems, research at PML is amongst the most highly cited in scientific publications across the UK environmental science community. In 2011 the organization was listed 8th in the world of the top 30 Research Institutions in Oceanography (Thomson Reuters). As a leading partner and key player in large national and international programmes, with collaborations with 250 institutes from 50 countries each year, PML serves a range of clients including Research Councils UK, government departments and agencies, European Union, space agencies, international agencies, philanthropists and industry. PML is also designated as a National Capability delivery partner for the Natural Environment Research Council, providing a strategic research capability in marine science and Earth observation. PML's long term objective is the sustainability of the marine ecosystem as climate regulator; a source of food, water, renewable energy, and livelihoods; and as a contributor to human health and prosperous human societies.
